My Favorite Drugstore Beauty Buys
Five products under $10
Like most women, I love the makeup counter at department stores and can spend hours trying on makeup at MAC, Chanel and others. Brand-name beauty products have always been one of my guilty pleasures; I've never really cared much for manicures, pedis or waxing. I've been trying to trim my budget while we're in this recession, so beauty products seems like a natural place to start … $50 Chanel foundation isn’t exactly a necessity.
I've spent a little more time at my local Target lately browsing the beauty aisle and surprisingly, have found that some drugstore products that outperform pricier department store counterparts. Here's a roundup of my favorites:

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation, $8.29
I'm pretty picky when it comes to foundation and was a little apprehensive about trying this. The wrong foundation can leave your face looking cakey and dry, or give you the dreaded disco-ball effect. Also, I have very fair skin and have a hard time finding foundation that isn't too dark. This left my skin looking even and radiant all day without any caking. The foundation feels very lightweight when being applied, and it blends easily. Porcelain ivory matched my fair skin really well.

Aussie Moist Shampoo & Conditioner, $3.99
I used to rotate through 3 or 4 different shampoos and conditioners on a weekly basis because I couldn't find one that I loved. My medium-length hair is wavy, dry and very thick, and a lot of shampoos and conditioners leave it feeling frizzy and weighed down. The Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner have a great tropical smell and do a great job of enhancing my natural wave and leaving my hair shiny and smooth. Aussie works better than many salon brands I've tried, and at $3.99, the price can't be beat.
Unlike some other polishes, OPI is free of toxic chemicals such as toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate. The quality is also superb and the polish lasts longer than any other brands I've used before.
Wet 'N' Wild Ultimate Expressions Eyeshadow, $4.99
I remember Wet 'N' Wild from my teenage years and there's no way that I would’ve tried this eyeshadow if I hadn't stumbled upon the reviews on Makeupalley. I purchased two of the palettes and was instantly sold. The colors are highly pigmented and stay for hours, even after hitting the gym. The shadow is silky-smooth and easy to blend, and you should be able to wear at least 3 of the colors in each palette, since good neutrals are always included. There's no reason to spend $20 or more on eyeshadow when you can get 8 colors for $5.

Aveeno Clear Complexion Cleaning Pads, $7.29
I’ve used Aveeno’s Clear Complexion Cleaning pads as a makeup remover and cleanser for the past week and I love how soft this makes my skin. The pads are much larger than most other makeup pads so it makes using the product so much easier. The exfoliating side of the pad cleans deep and removes makeup and dirt and the other side polishes, leaving my skin clean and radiant.

CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara is AMAZING. I've tried many, many brands before, but this one is the best--think, long lashes, no clumping and great staying power--all for about $6!
Hawaiian Tropic Oil Free Faces Sunscreen SPF 30. My F A V O R I T E drugstore product by far. I've been using it as both a sunscreen and moisturizer for about 2 years now and love, love, love the results! I stopped buying face creams completely. It's scent-free, hypoallergenic, fast absorbing and non-greasy. It's just perfect for about $8.
I also really love any/all body creams by Vaseline. They have a great line.
Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna have to try the Wet 'n Wild - who knew?!
I'm with you - I'm a high-end makeup junkie but I also love my drugstore steals. My personal favorites are from L'Oreal's HIP line...I love their cream eyeliners (staying power and cool colors) and their lipglosses in the pots. They're GREAT - not sticky at all.
1. COSMO Maybelline mascara - it is great if you want full lashes.
2. Eyeshadows -Maybelline they last all day and night
3. Revlon eyeliners - the colors are so pure, I love there charcoal color not to light but not too dark.
4. St. Ives Face Scrub
5. Neutragena Facial Lotion - Moisture SPF 15. Works great!
In response to Princess-Jewels about finding the right shade of foundation:
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out. I think it's trial by error, mostly. I know Rite-Aid use to have a no-questions-asked return policy on make up items... you might want to check into that sparingly until you find the right shade.
If you happen to be of fair complexion, I read a few articles that make-up called "nude" works for nearly everyone of light complexions... I recommend ColorStay liquid foundation in nude by Revlon. It looks a little light in the bottle, but it blends very well... just a suggestion. :)
My top drugstore beauty picks:
1 - St. Ives Apricot Scrub... I've been using it since I was fourteen and my skin has been virtually flawless since (I'm twenty-three now). I get compliments on my skin all the time. It lacks the salicylic acid that makes me break out, and the formula really gets into your pores and feels natural... the tub of the stuff costs around $6.99.
2. Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner - Someone already posted for this, but this is the ONLY eyeliner that doesn't give me raccoon eyes or rub off throughout the day. It's very soft, too. Around $7.99.
3. Aveeno Continuous Radiance Moisturizing Lotion with Customized Dial - I've seen self-tanners at department store counters go for $30 and up. This product costs about $13.99 and you can choose from an array of shades to customize your tan (I cannot afford tanning beds, and although I think they're relaxing, I'd like to avoid any potential skin risks). If you stop using the lotion, it won't leave or fade into those strange "brown spots" that I've gotten from other self-tanning products. I've tried the majority of the drugstore self-tanners, and this is immaculate! Again, $13.99, bottle lasts for about a month (for me).
4) Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder by N.Y.C. - Very light and clean. The multiple shades blend and leave your skin looking natural. Neutrogena makes a very similar compact that costs a lot more at $11.99 and holds less powder. I usually alternate between the two. My only complaint is that N.Y.C.'s doesn't come with a brush (I use the one from the Neutrogena like-product. Around $4.99.
As for the original story's top beauty picks... the moist Aussie shampoo and conditioner leave my hair a little too greasy after using daily for a week, but I have a couple of small size samples of the stuff I reach for after going to the beach (the moist line makes my hair smooth and silky again). I have used Aveeno's daily cleaning pads - they are lovely and my second favorite cleansers next to St. Ive's Apricot Scrub.
Get off your high horse and learn something about the FDA and science. It might make you sound less ignorant.
