Renting a dog, what a fabulous idea!  I am a lifelong dog fancier and when exploring different breeds for a pet, how great to see the qualities of a certain breed.  All dogs are different, but generally the overall breed has certain inate characteristics.  It makes the most sense for those of us dog fanciers that prefer pure breds.  I am all for this idea!

why do you "prefer" purebreeds?  Humane societies are  putting wonderful dogs to sleep every day because of people like you that "prefer" purebreeds.  Also the humane societies actually have a lot of purebreeds because of breeders that are going out of business and give their left over dogs/puppys to the humane societies.

I hate the idea of dog rental.  It sounds like Canine prostitution to me.  If you want a dog and  aren't sure what breed you want (if you're a breed snob, like me) then go to a dog show and talk to the people who are showing, or to a dog park and engage the owners in conversation.  People love to talk about their dogs.  If you want the companionship of a dog occationally but can't afford it or your landlord won't allow it, then go to a shelter and volunteer.  These poor rented dogs are bounced from one person to the next and probably have no idea what's going on or who their master is.  Dogs are pack animals and want to be with their pack.  They are not nomads.

I'm also not crazy about the wife rental.  I get the concept and think it's brilliant, however not so crazy about the title.  Seems a bit sexist to me.

Why do some pepople "prefer" a truck over a car?  It's no different.  Mixed breed dogs are just as wonderful and loving as a purebred.  And sometimes actually have LESS health problems than a pedigreed dog.  It's just that some of us prefer a specific breed.  I love my brittany but my friend has a terrific shepperd mix that I adore to peices as well.

renting living things is so wrong. what about their mental health? switching owners all the time. no sense of belonging. and you as the renter have no idea as to teh animals quirks. it's an accident waiting to happen.

I couldn't agree more with the folks that are against the rental of dogs. These are living beings that form a bond with their care givers only to be torn apart from them and out into another home? It's cruel!

RENTING DOGS? That's horrible!!!! If you wan to see if you are allergic to dogs, GO TO A BREEDER AND SPEND TIME THERE! Dogs are like humans. It's like being a foster child (in this case dog) and being taken from one home to another and when you finally find one you love you have to go spend time with someone who wants to see how their family 'reacts' to dogs! :(

Isn't that like animal cruelty?

You guys do have a great point... renting dogs like they're meaningless objects are kinda cruel.  I could never have the heart to give a great dog I spent a day with back... Unless they belonged to my family or friends.  Here in Las Vegas, it's an animal town.  Everyone here loves their animals just like family.  No one would have the heart to rent animals probably except rediculously rich people with no common sense.

Some of these suggestions are ludicrous or downright offensive.  Paying 1/3 the price of an iPhone to rent it for ONE WEEK is an absolutely ridiculous waste of money.  Renting sex dolls?  Ewwwwwwwwwww.  Renting dogs?  I'll just say I feel the same as prior posters, it seems cruel to the animal.  But I have to laugh that so many more people are offended by the idea of renting a dog than they are the idea of renting a wife!  Because, obviously, a wife is someone who will clean, cook, organize, plan events, and otherwise be a faithful servant....disgusting.  There's nothing wrong with hiring someone to do these jobs, or being the person that feeds their family through this kind of work (I worked as a housekeeper through college) but I'm horrified that we still consider wives as domestic slaves.
