It's nice to see that everyone has something positive to say ... probably just jealous that you don't a designer kitchen yourself. Stop picking holes in people for not being perfect, because you're not perfect yourself.

Then she talks about the doorless cabs, about takin her stuff from the dishwasher & turnin around, bein able to throw her stuff right on the shelves, then she turns around from the dishwasher, like she's got something to put away on the shelf right.. And when she turns around like she's able to put her stuff away so easy and there's that bigass ol island between her & the shelves!! hahaha.. Uh, I'm sorry but, she hardly made her point the way she was tryin to make it. If she spun around & there's the cab shelf right behind her big hehind, ok fine, but unless she flings them plates like frizbees over the counter & across the kitchen.. they aren't goin anywhere but on that big thick ugly black counter.

I can not imagine this being the kitchen of the year -- nothing is really viable, too little counter space, way to antispectic and then the over-doing of the seating area and "desk" area, who would want to have to deal with that, it is cluttered and uninviting is all I can say.  Who wants to sit on backless stools to eat and read the paper?  I certainly do not, this kitchen area could have been done so much better. I just do not like that kitchen, sure it has one or two good ideas, the viking stove etc., but the rest - I don't think it is kitchen of the year material at all, there are so many better kitchens out there -- why this one??

My husband and I both work during the day. I find open cupboards appalling, allowing dust to collect on dishes, and you would be surprized how much dust is falling in your house daily. The shelf over the stove, means that the chef will lean over open burners, maybe even on tiptoes, to grab cooking condiments and utensils there. Safety mistake. Spices in drawers with closed tops, means the chef will have to dirty the door handle while she or he is cooking. Most people's hands get dirty during cooking. Eating at the island with bar stools means people don't have to face each other across the table anymore and can read a newspaper while eating, and most likely will. I see that as a contributor to the further anti-socialization of the American family.

It just proves, get a good photographer, presentation and you can win almost anything.

Yes, I too enjoy her kitchen at home, have watched MANY episodes and figured out the floor plan, the walk-in pantry is convenient.  I even enjoy her newly renovated barnhouse.  Actually, the floorplan and work area make perfect sense to me...I'm a cook and currently have an awful kitchen to cook in...I walk a mile from refrigerator to counter with no quality work surface between sink and stove.  When I move and get my own kitchen I certainly will keep Ina's footprint in mind.

I agree.  Those stools look awfully uncomfortable! I like open cabinets, but not right over the stove...too much grease to clean on a regular bases!

I find it interesting that she JUST HAPPENS to have a column in House Beautiful, and the editor-in-chief JUST HAPPENS to be a personal friend who is on MANY of her cooking show episodes and she JUST HAPPENS to have kitchen of the year 2009???

I must admit, I am (was) a true fan; watch all her foodtv shows over and over, own every cookbook, have cooked several recipes (they all work) went to a book signing, had a subscription to House Beautiful and even sent email to her website; suggested maybe she would consider doing a few episodes with fans in the kitchen as she cooks.  Her email response was "Ina is more comfortable with her close friends".  Thought the response was a little cold and after I thought about it I said to my husband, "maybe she should have just her close friends buy all her cookbooks and watch her shows".

I think her kitchen is very functional, I don't mind the white colorlessness, think the 2 dishwasher idea is cool, like the open cabinets (its my preference) and tools on countertop easy access.

I'm glad for the information and tips, but it all seems too convenient to me.  I already started down-grading my show watching; all of her photographer friends and editor friends and bakery friends are beginning to bore me!  They seem to be taking really good care of each other!  Keep the money among friends!

Is anyone going to ever cook anything in this place or try to?  Looks like a silly waste of money for people who don't know what they're doing.  Designed by silly people who don't know what they're doing, playing with ideas like an idiot, playing with a pile of buttons.
